Quick Fire Q&A ACHUB
Behind the Scenes with ACHUB
Sanding or painting — which do you prefer?
Always both!
What’s your biggest creative challenge?
Fighting imposter syndrome (cripples me sometimes).
What’s your go-to finish for a project?
Acrylic furniture paints and oil enamels for lettering.
Do you plan your designs or go with the flow?
I plan a lot in my head, but it often changes as a piece progresses. However, lettering takes meticulous planning on paper.
Do you work better in silence or with music?
Always music! Essential.
If you answered the previous question with music, what song/playlist keeps you going during a project?
This can vary hugely. I'm a big BBC 6Music fan, but playlists often include the likes of Ezra Collective and Khruangbin, through to Fontains DC and The Bug Club; with everything in between.
How long does it take you to finish a typical project?
Usually 2 - 5 days.
What’s your favourite tool in your workshop?
I don't think I have a favourite tool, but light is really important.
Favourite colour to work with?
Candy pink and various greens at the moment.
Favourite designer or artist?
A group of artists known loosely as 'The Young British Artists', around in the late 80s and 90s.
What’s your proudest moment as maker?
Tricky! Any portrait or commission that is loved, is very humbling.
